The Code

What happened to black people code in corporate America? I thought when we see each other we are supposed to give the head nod and make eye contact? Why are we walking around at work like we don’t see each other? And if we do make eye contact it’s real quick with a half smile. When did this change happen and was a memo sent out to the black congregation that I missed?

Black code is how we survive the 9-5 of corporate America. It’s the side eyes we give each other on the sly when a “joke" is made. It’s the walk it while we talk it conversations we have on the way to the copy machine or over lunch or anywhere out of the eye of our non-black colleagues. Get it together people, this is how we survive!
