Fashion Forward

I have a passion for style. My entire life, I have been complimented on my fashion sense, which is a direct result of growing up with a fashion diva mother. Her style was Vanity6, Janet Jackson and En Vogue, all in one closet. FYI – LOVE THE 80’s. I remember watching her go through her walk-in closet, and walking out in the most elaborate outfits. I said to myself, when I grow up I’m going to look just like her. I’m going to go all out every chance I get, and have fun doing it. Well here I AM. I’ve got my look down to a science “Effortless Lady, with a hint of Edge.” Growing up stylish has groomed me and equipped me with styling talents that come as easy as breathing.

“It’s better to show up over dressed than under dressed.” “Play in your clothes.” “Always aim to stand out, rather than blend in.” These are just some of the little jewels my mother gave me growing up. You would think I would have thought to go to school for fashion, but no, I studied Journalism. I’ve written fashion articles for LA Weekly, attended Fashion Week events, given style trainings for corporate offices and boutiques, and coached many of my friends and colleagues in building their wardrobes. Shopping, inspiring through my own personal style, and helping people find outfits for special occasions is exhilarating, but I have never thought to make it a business…Until now.

After many shopping trips for friends, and several style trainings, I realized ‘I really love doing this.’ I need to make this a business. I met with a career coach, and after my entrepreneur coaching session, I began working on a website. Months later, I stopped procrastinating and hit publish site. I sent out an announcement letting everyone know, Ricki Downing Style Consulting is in business. Many of my friends commented “Finally,” as they have been pushing for me to do this for years. Now, my passion is my business. In between my current day job, I work with clients, providing style coaching, personal shopping and helping them reinvent their style within their very own closets. My goal is to provide a service to women and men, inspiring them to express themselves through style. Getting dressed shouldn’t be a dreaded chore, it should be your opportunity to let everyone know who you are without saying a word.
